Former NBI deputy chief found dead

MANILA, Philippines - A former ranking official of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) was found dead inside his house in Katarungan Village, Muntinlupa City, on Friday night.

Police said former NBI deputy director Alejandro Tenerife, 69, was found dead by his household helper inside his bedroom at past 6 p.m..

Investigators said Tenerife died of a single gunshot wound in the head.

House maid Jane Barya said her employer has been complaining of some kind of an illness for a very long time. She said that the former NBI official frequently vomits.

Barya added that the former NBI official also has difficulty in sleeping.

The family of the victim and the NBI have declined to immediately comment on Tenerife's death.

Police said that the NBI is conducting an independent investigation into the incident. (report from Jerome Lanting, ABS-CBN News)
